Cole Co. man charged with several child sex crimes

James Weed Jr. was charged with two counts of statutory sodomy in the first degree, two counts of child molestation in the first degree and one count of class B felony of sexual misconduct.

Captain John Wheeler with the Cole County Sheriff’s Department said, “Weed has been in custody since June 19th. He was already on parole for narcotics distribution. His bond is set at $300,000.”

Prosecutor Mark Richardson said, “The range of punishment, if he is proven guilty, is no less than ten years in prison.”

“I can just tell you it’s a heinous crime and it’s one that we’re investigating vigorously,” said Captain Wheeler.

Weed is set to appear in court on Wednesday, July 2nd, if his bond is not posted.
