Man breaks-in, punches woman in the face

A man escaped early Wednesday after breaking into a woman’s house and punching her in the face. Police were called to the 2400 block of Nifong in south Columbia around 3 a.m.

The victim says a man shined a flashlight in her face and then left the room. When the woman got up and opened her door to investigate, the suspect punched her in the face. He got out through a front door without taking anything.

The suspect is described as a white, college-aged, around 6-feet tall and wearing a dark-colored shirt and cargo shorts.

Officers tried using police dogs to track the man, but did not find anything.
