Preps wrap-up: Bruins, Jays and Saders ready for state

Baseball

Rock Bridge baseball makes its first trip to state for the first time since 2009. The Bruins are backed by ace pitcher Logan Twehous, who carried the team through district and quarterfinal games. However, the Bruins say the late-season turning point came in the district semifinals. That was when Helias scored eight runs in the first inning before Rock Bridge answered with nine in the bottom of the frame. Rock Bridge then beat Jeff City, Rolla and escaped Nixa to get to the semifinals on Thursday.

Also in baseball, Linn baseball falls to Valle Catholic in Class 2 semifinals. The Wildcats will play Archie in the third place game at 10:30 am Tuesday.

Girls Soccer

The Capital City will be well-represented in the girls soccer state tournament. Jefferson City and Helias both made it after quarterfinal victories over Nixa and Carl Junction respectively. This is the Jays’ first ever appearance in the state tournament while Helias is celebrating its third straight trip to the semifinals. Jeff City plays St. Teresa Academy at 4 p.m. while Helias squares off against Kearney. Both games are Friday.
