2018 SEC men’s basketball tournament comes to St. Louis

St. Louis lands its first big SEC event with the help of Mizzou.

Missouri basketball will host the 2018 SEC men’s basketball tournament at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The SEC athletic directors approved the move Tuesday during the SEC spring meetings in Destin, Fla.

“I would like to thank Commissioner (Mike) Slive, his staff at the Southeastern Conference and my league counterparts for unanimously approving St. Louis’ proposal to host the 2018 Southeastern Conference Tournament for men’s basketball,” Missouri athletic director Mike Alden said in a statement.

“It’s an honor to have the SEC Tournament hosted in our state’s footprint for the first time and I know fans from throughout our league will be treated to a first-class experience and a great week of college basketball,” Missouri head basketball coach Kim Anderson said in a statement. “”Congratulations to St. Louis, the St. Louis Sports Commission and the great basketball fans in the city and our state for earning the right to host the 2018 Southeastern Conference Basketball Tournament.”

Mizzou will play in the Scottrade Center twice in the 2017-2018 season. The Tigers face Illinois in the annual Braggin’ Rights game in December 2017.
