Salute to Veterans Airshow successful despite rainy conditions

Event leaders for the Salute to Veterans Airshow said they never estimate the amount of people they expect to show up every year. That’s because of reasons experienced on Saturday when rainy conditions delayed the show for about two hours.

Despite the delay, hundreds endured the weather to show their support where many just wanted to say, “thank you.”

Those simple words meant a lot to the veterans that came to watch parachuters leap from the sky and vintage aircraft lift off the runway.

The airshow began at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday as planned, but rain soon followed, forcing planes to land and onlookers to seek shelter and stay dry. However, it didn’t turn away those who just wanted to show their support.

For those wanting to see the show again, an encore presentation will begin on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Also, the Salute to Veterans parade will be in downtown Columbia on Monday at 9:55 a.m.
