Deputies looking for suspect in Friday morning homicide in Boone County

The Boone County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of 19-year-old Columbia resident Dennis. C Darks.
Officials with sheriff's office confirmed one person was shot and killed on East Santa Barbara Drive east of Columbia shortly before 1 a.m. Friday.
The sheriff's office said at approximately 12:47 a.m. deputies responded to the 4300 block Santa Barbara Drive for a shots heard call. Boone County Joint Communications had received numerous calls from people reporting they had heard several shots in the area. Deputies received additional information that a home had been damaged by gunfire.
Upon arrival deputies began investigating the damage to the home when they learned a subject that lived in the residence had been struck by gunfire and taken by a private vehicle to a local hospital.
Deputies later determined the victim, Darks, was an inside of a vehicle parked on Santa Barbara Drive when he was shot.
Darks was pronounced dead at the hospital. No one has been arrested or charged in relation to the homicide.
Deputies were out canvassing for evidence and following up with witnesses on Rosetta Avenue Friday morning.
Darks is a former Battle High School student.
