Witness says he knows who suspects are in alleged Texas Ave. homicide

Columbia Police said they are still looking for the suspect or suspects in Tuesdays homicide on Texas Avenue, but one witness said he knows who did it.

Mike Chambers was standing outside his garage across the street when he heard and watched the chaos unfold just before 2 p.m. Tuesday.

“I heard boom, boom, boom, boom…that quick. Then they came running out of the house yelling, ‘Go, go, go!'” Chambers said.

It was about a half hour later that police said they were investigating a homicide.

Chambers told ABC 17 News he got a clear look at the two men running outside the house.

“I’m about 5’10” so they were about 6′. They looked like brothers. One had dreads and was wearing a black shirt,” he said.

Chambers said the one wearing a black shirt ran into the apartment building across the street. He was later taken into questioning by police.

The other he described wearing a white shirt. Chambers said he got into a green Chevy Impala and sped off.

Police said they believe the killing was not random. Neighbors nearby agreed.

“They knew where they were going and they knew who was home inside,” Angel Scott said.

And Chambers had a different theory.

“It was probably all drug related,” he said.

This is the third homicide Columbia Police have investigated this year. Three people are in custody for the killing of Dontay Tolston. And the death of 16-year-old Morgan Myers is also ruled as a homicide, after she was thought to have overdosed on heroin.
