Tours restarting at MO state pen in Jefferson City

The Missouri State Penitentiary is restarting tours on Monday, after it closed last fall because of mold.

Activities stopped in September after high levels of mold were found. Full access will be available this July.

Jefferson City and the state split an estimated $2 million in repairs to get the facility opened again.

The state pen first opened in 1836. It became the oldest running prison west of the Mississippi River until it finally shutdown in 2004.
