Part of U.S. 63 closed Wednesday night
Highway 63 southbound over Stadium Boulevard will be closed Wednesday night for unexpected road repairs.
Drivers will have to use the entrance and exit ramps on Stadium to get back on 63 from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday.
Right now, U.S. 63 from Broadway to Stadium Boulevard is under construction to repair the Hominy Creek Bridge. Crews have closed down a southbound lane from Broadway to Stadium during the construction, which caused drivers to use the shoulders.
According to MODOT, the high volume of traffic on the shoulders caused them to fail, prompting unexpected and immediate repairs.
Chuck Sullivan, an engineer for MODOT said the southbound shoulders made not be the only repairs needed.
“With all the investigation we do with the thickness of roads, this section near the bridge didn’t look as bad as it turned out to be,” Sullivan said. “We think maybe northbound and a few others will need repairs.”
The shoulder repairs will be paid for by MODOT.
The bridge will reopen at 6 a.m. Thursday.
The bridge repairs should be done by Memorial Day.
