Police chase ends in crash, power outage in Moberly

A Moberly man was hurt after he led police on a chase and crashed his car into an electric pole early Saturday morning.

Police originally tried to pull the unnamed 24-year-old over in the 900 block of Kwix Road. According to a news release, he drove off at high speeds before crashing not far away near the entrance to the Fox Run subdivision.

Neighbors told ABC 17 News on Saturday the crash sounded like it had hit their homes, which lost power almost immediately.

“We heard high speed sirens coming up the road really quick you could tell they were really moving,” said neighbor Steve Loeber. “Then, we heard a loud crash.”

“I heard the crash and I noticed it was like three seconds later, we lost power,” said Natasha Schultz, another neighbor.

Ameren crews arrived on scene shortly afterward and neighbors said it took about seven hours for power to be restored.

Residents said they were shaken by the morning chaos, but glad no one in the neighborhood had been hurt.

“I got up to check to see what had happened and we looked out the window and saw that a vehicle had went into the neighbor’s yard,” said Schultz.

“I thought they crashed into the side of my house,” Loeber added.

The man was taken to a Columbia hospital, but his name and condition had not been released as of Saturday night at 11 p.m.
