MU head football coach Gary Pinkel and players talk Green-Beckhma dismissal

Saturday morning MU head football coach Gary Pinkel talked to the media for the first time since dismissing Dorial Green-Beckham from the football team.

Friday the junior wide receiver was dismissed from the team after being suspended indefinitely on Monday.

Before his dismissal was announced, Green-Beckham, in a statement to the St. Louis Post Dispatch said, “I was acting young and dumb,” and that he would seek counseling.

Hours later, coach Pinkel announced Green-Beckham won’t be returning to the team.

Athletic Director Mike Alden said he supported the decision.

Alden said Green-Beckham’s actions and behavior didn’t match the values of the school or athletic program.

Pinkel says it was a tough decision but made with Dorial’s best interest.

“It’s always tough, it’s always difficult and at the end of the day you have to do what’s right and that’s how I’ve made every decision I’ve ever made here. You have to do what’s right,” Gary Pinkel said.

“He’s a great player and he’s a great person so it’s always bad, hurts to see guys like him go,” Markus Golden, senior defensive lineman said.

Sophomore quarterback Maty Mauk said, “I still have Darius, he’s 6’3″, Bud is 6’3″, I’m not worried about anything and they are going to step up and do their job and whatever we have to do to win we’ll do it.”

“I’m sorry for the things that’ve happen, that was my brother, it’ll be sad without him but we have to move on as an offense and keep working hard.” senior tailback Marcy Murphy said.
