Hermann man shoots at officers, turns gun on himself
A gunman shoots at officers before turning the gun on himself.
It happened on Wednesday around 8:45 p.m. Hermann Police Department responded to call of domestic assault on 201 Schiller Street. A 51-year-old woman had fled from her assailant she identified as her 58-year-old boyfriend.
Officers went to the home to locate the assailant and entered the house. As they approached the upstairs level, the gunman fired a shot through a partially open door, according to the release.
Officers retreated to take cover and continued to tell the man to drop his gun. The man responded by firing a second shot at officers. Police returned fire before the man retreated into another part of the home. Soon after, officers heard a third gunshot.
Other officials from the Gasconade Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrived to help and entered the home to find that the suspect had turned the gun on himself.
The Gasconade County Coroner pronounced the suspect dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A .44 caliber revolver was on the floor next to him.
The shooter’s name is not being released at this time.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital for her injuries.
