Fire, explosion at Marshfield propane tank was accidental

MARSHFIELD, Mo. (AP) — State fire officials say a massive fire and explosion at a Marshfield propane tank plant was accidental.

The Missouri Division of Fire Safety said this week the fire at the Kosan Crisplant facility on May 13 likely was started when a spark from a dropped tank ignited the propane.

Investigators said the fire originated outside in an area where small propane tanks were being prepared for reconditioning.

Marshfield Fire Chief Michael Taylor said the fire spread to about 10,000 portable propane tanks, sending the metal canisters shooting 100 feet in the air.

One employee was injured.
