Two killed in head-on collision on Highway 63

Two drivers died in a head-on collision that happened in Columbia early Tuesday.

According to the Columbia Police Department, shortly before 12:30 a.m. the driver of an SUV was going south in the northbound lanes of Highway 63 just north of the Vandiver Drive overpass.

The SUV then hit another vehicle head-on. The accident closed northbound lanes of Highway 63 until about 3:45 a.m.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The southbound driver has been identified Chasity Vaughan, 35, from Columbia. The northbound driver has been identified as John Brenneman, 38, from Columbia.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Investigators said speed was not a factor, but they don’t yet know if alcohol or drugs were involved.
