MoDOT launches enhanced pothole patrol

MoDOT says its dedicating the month of March to making state roads safer for drivers.

MoDOT says this month it will repair every pothole reported within 24 hours.

MoDOT engineers say there are more potholes than usual this year because of the long, extremely cold winter.

“Potholes are obviously something that we want to make sure we stay on top of. We need them patched and fixed because they are hard on pavements and hard on vehicles,” said Mike Belt of MoDOT Central District.

Patching a pothole usually takes crews less than 5 minutes. For a repair, the pothole needs to be swept out, have a layer of oil pored down, and then it must be filled with an asphalt mixture.

Crews say an average pothole fix costs about $200.
