Sunshine helps melt icy roads in Columbia, Jefferson City

Sunny skies with little cloud cover helped melt ice and sleet that accumulated on roads Sunday afternoon and evening.

Columbia Public Works reported on their Facebook page that a salt and cinder mix was dropped on roads Sunday to improvetraction on slippery spots.

CPW cautioned that roads in shaded areas may have slick spots that could refreeze tonight, and snow operations were deactivatedMonday afternoon.

Jefferson City Public Works Director Britt Smith told ABC 17 News primary routes are mostly clear, with patchy ice on turn lanesand in shaded spots.

Smith reported secondary routes are partially clear with some icy spots, especially on shaded streets.
