Aiden’s Avengers raises $5k for medical expenses

Aiden Taylor, the Columbia second grader battling a rare form of cancer has a team of supporters, who call themselves Aiden’s Avengers, continuing to stand behind him.

Nearly a month ago, doctors diagnosed the eight-year-old with a rare form of cancer called, medulloblastoma. Aiden is currently at Saint Jude’s in Memphis undergoing treatment.

The cancer is so rare that it accounts for fewer than two percent of all brain tumors and affects the brain and spine.

Aiden’s parents, Josh and Lisa Taylor, took him to see an eye doctor after months of complaints about headaches and trouble reading. Afters after that appointment, the phone rang. Doctors at the Children’s Hospital in Columbia confirmed Aiden suffered from a brain tumor.

Days later, an MRI revealed three more tumors on his spine that causes significant leg pain.

So far, Aiden has undergone two surgeries. One successfully removed the mass from his brain. The second surgery on his spine showed the tumors were inoperable, wrapped within the nerves of spinal cord.

On Sunday, Aiden’s Avengers raised around $5,000 for him in Columbia. Even some businesses agreed to put 25 percent of their profits toward Aiden’s cause.

His family and friends are behind the cause.

“It started with just a tiny idea and it turned into this huge event,” said family friend Amy Herin.

The next fundraiser event is on Thursday at Shakespeare’s Pizza.
