Man sentenced on federal drug conspiracy charges

A man who pleaded guilty to federal drug charges in March, 2013, learned he will spend half a decade behind bars Wednesday.

Michael Wayne Crossno is connected to a drug ring involving Levi Coolley, a man with close ties to the Missouri men’s basketball team.

Coolley pleaded guilty last month to distribution of marijuana and cocaine, after being arrested at the teams hotel in Omaha, Nebraska while traveling with the team back in 2012.

Now, Crossno’s plea agreement documents are showing new details between the two men and the drug ring they were involved in.

The documents show Crossno and Coolley worked with more than a dozen people to distribute cocaine in Columbia since at least the summer of 2008.

They detail how Crossno bought cocaine from Coolley and then sold it to his own customers.

According to the documents, Crossno obtained two ounces of cocaine per month from Coolley over a period of at least four to five years.

In addition, Crossno transported marijuana from Las Vegas to Columbia for Coolley.

After Coolley was arrested, the athletic department conducted an internal review regarding his involvement with former players and the team. They were satisfied team members were not involved.

Crossno pleaded guilty to distribution of more than five kilograms of cocaine last March, but wasn’t sentenced until Wednesday.

A judge sentenced Crossno to five years after a U.S. attorney requested lesser time than the minimum of ten years.

Crossno will also face five years supervised release.

Coolley is still waiting to be sentenced.
