Dogs escape kennel fire in southern Boone County

Three dogs escape a kennel fire in southern Boone County Saturday morning.

It happened around 10 a.m. at Waggin’ Tail Kennel on Zumwalt Road near Hartsburg.

The dogs were able to run out a back door and into a fenced in area to avoid the flames.

Price Nichols with the Southern Boone County Fire Department said it took two tankers, two engines and squad of fifteen firefighters to control the flames. They stayed on the scene for about two hours to check for hot spots and take the tin roof down.

Damage estimates totaled around $100,000.

The owners said they did have insurance were thankful the fire didn’t spread to their home about ten feet away.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Saturday night.
