Jefferson City police investigate after human remains found

Jefferson City police say human remains found Tuesday apparently are those of a missing Mid-Missouri man.

The remains were found Tuesday afternoon in woods near Church of the Nazarene, in the 200 block of Schumate Chapel Road in the western part of the city.

Jefferson City police Capt. Bob Clark said Wednesday that the body was decomposing and had been at the site for some time, but it appears he was middle-aged.

He says police found no evidence of a shooting or stabbing and the Boone County medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Police have been talking with family members of the man, but won’t release his identity until further testing is done.
