Road crews prepare for slick roads again

Mid-Missouri roads crews were bracing for another dangerous day Monday, with a chance of freezing rain for parts of the area.

In Columbia, Public Works said a two man crew was out treating priority streets Sunday night. An eight person crew would come on board overnight to keep an eye on roads into the morning commute.

Jefferson City Public Works Director Britt Smith told ABC 17 News supervisors there would be watching the weather, but no additional crews were being called in overnight.

The ABC 17 Stormtrack weather team is predicting rain moving in late Sunday, with temperatures staying below freezing in areas in the northeast corner of mid-Missouri. That’s where a glaze of ice could form on roads in the morning.

A freezing rain advisory was extended Sunday night, now lasting from midnight until noon Monday for counties from Boone County and continuing to the north and east.
