Manhunt over for chase suspect in Maries Co.

A man considered armed and dangerous was caught after an hours-long manhunt in Maries County Sunday night.

According to the sheriff’s department Facebook page, the manhunt ended between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Sunday.

45-year-old Jeffery Eaton, of Cuba, is accused of leading deputies on a chase in excess of 100 miles per hour Saturday night on Highway AA between Argyle and Vienna. Deputies found his car crashed in a field nearby.

Eaton was captured after an armed resident in that area found him. According to a news release, Eaton said he was tired of running and wanted to turn himself in.

Deputies found a bullet proof vest, drugs and paraphernalia, numerous knives, ammunition and a pistol holder in Eaton’s car. Then Sunday night, they found him with what was described as an AK-47-style rifle, two loaded rounds and a loaded .45 pistol.

Originally thought to be on his way to Crawford County, Eaton was spotted along Highway AA again Sunday evening.

Sheriff Chris Heitman warned residents in that area to lock their car and house doors and not to pick up strangers along the side of the road. One person reported Eaton had asked them for help fleeing from deputies.

Charges had not been filed against Eaton early Monday morning, but Sheriff Heitman said he was wanted on multiple felony warrants.
