Local school returns after burst pipes

Students returned to St. Peter Interparish School in Jefferson City on Friday after weather delays and two burst pipes.

Classes were out for three weeks starting December 20. Poor weather conditions canceled sessions Monday and Tuesday. But things were pushed back another two more days for water damage.

Cold temperatures are being blamed for two broken sprinklers, which also leaked down the walls.

Several teachers in the Vogelweid Learning Center are being moved. Officials said carpet, baseboard and ceiling tiles will have to be replaced for a handful of classrooms, which could take a couple weeks. And once the cafeteria is completely sanitized, the facility has to pass a health inspection before serving food.

Games and practices are canceled Friday evening until the repairs are finished. The schedule for Saturday is also dependent on when fixes are complete.
