Drivers should expect slick roads Monday morning

Mid-Missouri road crews worked through the night Sunday, still battling icy roads.

In Columbia, Public Works crews were still clearing priority routes at 8 p.m. Sunday, with work set to begin downtown overnight.

ABC 17 News crews on the roads reported refreezing and periodic black ice in Columbia.

According to a news release, residential areas would be addressed after a shift change around 7 a.m. Monday.

No parking remained in effect Sunday night for priority snow routes in Columbia.

Jefferson City Public Works struggled Sunday to stay ahead of the storm. They remained optimistic that all of the roads would be cleared by Monday’s morning commute.

Police were ticketing or towing anyone parked on the first priority snow route streets.

MoDOT issued a no travel advisory Sunday morning.

“Strong winds are blowing the snow around, and it’s creating a whiteout effect that makes it very difficult to see and makes travel extremely hazardous,” said MoDOT Chief Engineer Ed Hassinger in a news release.

The snowfall, coupled with 35-40 mph gusts of wind, created drifts that seriously challenged even four-wheel drive vehicles.
