Suspect arrested in shooting on Switzler Street
Columbia police arrested a suspect in the Dec. 3 shooting on Switzler Street. Limetro Wiltz, 21, was arrested Thursday night in Columbia.
On Dec. 3, around 2:30 p.m., officers were called to the Columbia Housing Authority on Switzler Street for a report of shots fired.
Residents in the area told ABC 17 News they heard shots being fired. Officers confirmed they did collect at least two shell casings at the scene.
According to court documents on Friday, police believe this shooting is part of an ongoing feud between two groups of people in Columbia.
Those documents also say Wilzt is affiliated with one of those groups, and that those groups have been involved in five recent shootings.
The most recent shooting was on Christmas Eve. Although court documents do not provide any details about the shooting, ABC 17 News reported a shooting on Benton Street where several people including children were inside the home Christmas Eve night when shots were fired.
One woman was hit and taken to the hospital.
However, Wiltz was arrested for the shooting on Dec. 3, near the Housing Authority off of Switzler.
Police were able to identify Wiltz as a suspect because of the Columbia Housing Authority security cameras.
“Mr. Wiltz was not a resident and we are not really sure what he was doing on our property. It appears that he had some involvement with someone driving by on a public street so we don’t even know if there is any connection with one of our residences,” said Phil Steinhaus, CEO of Columbia Housing Authority.
Regardless, Wiltz is banned from all Columbia Housing Authority Property.
“Someone who’s been arrested for discharging a firearm on and around our property and putting everyone at risk, it’s not likely we are going to remove him from the trespassing list,” said Steinhaus.
According to court documents Wiltz appeared to be alone when he allegedly shot at a moving car with four people inside.
ABC 17 News took a deeper look into Wiltz’s past and found he was convicted for an armed robbery in Wisconsin in 2010.
