Holts Summit Police Officer nearly pulled off bridge

Holts Summit police spoke out for the first time Monday about an incident that happened one week ago.

On Dec. 23, an officer responded to a call from a man who told 911 operators he was going to jump off an overpass on to Highway 54.

The officer arrived on scene a short time later and saw the man sitting on the metal railing.

He was able to talk to the individual and eventually got a family member on the phone.

During that conversation he was able to approach the man and pull him to safety as the man was distracted with the phone call.

The man was taken to University Hospital.

The officer suffered a minor leg injury.
