Jefferson City apartments being demolished

Demolition crews have started work to bring down two troubled apartment buildings in Jefferson City.

Some of the Mulberry Street apartments have been vacant since an arson left about 20 people without a home in November 2011.

City leaders had previously said the site had become high crime and was being taken down to be turned into green space.

A Jefferson City man was indicted for the arson the next month. Don Salcedo was caught on surveillance cameras at the building.

An ABC 17 News crew at the scene Saturday noted most of the damaged apartments had been nearly untouched since the fire.
