Mizzou football promotes OL coach Marcus Johnson

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz promoted Marcus Johnson to assistant head coach and run game coordinator on Wednesday afternoon.

Johnson will still continue to coach the offensive line, according to a release.

“Coach Johnson is a tremendous leader of young men,” Drinkwitz said in a release. “His work with our offensive line is a key element to our future successes. He has a bright future with our program.”

Johnson's offensive line unit ranked fourth in the SEC in sacks per game (1.6) in his first season with the program. MU's offense rushed for 135 yards per game, including 21 touchdowns.

“My family and I are incredibly grateful to Coach Drinkwitz for this opportunity,” Johnson said in a release. ”It’s been exciting to see our staff come together this winter and spring. We have great momentum going here at Mizzou.”

Before coming to Columbia, Johnson had previously coached at Mississippi State and Duke. The former Ole Miss standout played in the NFL for five seasons.
