Victim suffers serious head injuries during assault

Columbia police are investigating an overnight assault that left one man with serious head injuries.

Just before 4 a.m. Monday, officers were called to the 100 block of Redwood Road after reports came in of a man yelling for help outside of his home.

When officers arrived, they found the 49-year-old male victim with serious injuries to his head.

The victim told police he had been assaulted with a blunt object by a recently met acquaintance. He also told officers the suspect stole items from him after the assault.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect is described as a black man, approximately 30 years of age, 5’6″ tall and weight 160 lbs. He has a short fade haircut with no facial hair and was last seen wearing jeans and a silver shirt.

The Columbia Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is handling the investigation.
