Minimal damage reported after roof fire at Goldschmidt Cancer Center

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City fire department responded to the Goldschmidt Cancer Center just after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday after reports of a fire.

When crews arrived they found smoke and flames showing from the roof and occupants leaving the building.

The first crew on scene used a ground ladder to get to the roof and put out the fire. The fire was under control within 5 minutes according to a release from the fire department.

As more firefighters arrived, they went into the building to make sure the evacuation was complete and check the inside of the building.

Officials report the fire did not into the building and only light smoke in the main lobby of the cancer center.

There was minimal damage to the interior of the building and there were no injuries according to officials.

According to the department's release, the fire was caused by welding related to construction on the roof. Hot materials caught a wood pallet on fire and the fire extended into the roof components.
