Man reportedly jumps off Missouri River Bridge

Emergency crews have called off the search for a man who reportedly jumped off the Missouri River Bridge near Jefferson City.

Around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, crews responded to the area for a man who jumped into the water. Rescue crews used boats and a helicopter to search the river near the bridge.

The Highway Patrol’s Water Division called off the search around 7 p.m. after investigators talked to the girlfriend of the man and they could not confirm if the man actually jumped.

According to law enforcement, the girlfriend reportedly dropped the man off at the bridge, then went to get his grandparents.

When they returned, they found some clothing on the bridge deck, but no one ever saw him jump off the bridge and into the river.

There are numerous questions as to why somebody who was planning to jump would leave clothing behind.

Authorities say they will be looking at other aspects of the investigation to figure out what happened.
