Jefferson City police begin holiday enforcement campaign

Dec. 9 through Jan. 2, Jefferson City police officers are putting in overtime to enforce DWI laws.

The holiday enforcement campaign is a result of grant money from the Missouri Department of Transportation Safety Division.

Last year, 230 people were killed on Missouri roadways because of alcohol or drugs. During just the holiday season last year, 12 people lost their lives in crashes involving an impaired driver.

The Jefferson City Police Department is advising commuters to find a sober driver around the holiday season.

“Designate a sober driver,” said Sgt. Doug Ruediger. “A truly sober driver. Just be attentive to your driving and don’t get in a car with an impaired driver.”

JCPD says a truly designated driver is someone who drinks no alcohol at all.
