Columbia Public Schools release closing protocol

Columbia Public Schools notified parents of the district’s school closing protocol, ahead of wintry weather expected by Thursday.

The district said schools are only closed after roads throughout the city have been tested. Officials say they will try to make a decision by 6 a.m.

If school stays in session on a day when snow or winter weather is making travel difficult, some bus routes, bus stops and times could be altered.

CPS will inform parents and guardians of the school closing information via ParentLink, the district’s website, and on CPS-TV. Closing information will also appear on ABC 17 News and abc17news.com.

District officials say parents have the final decision when it comes to their children attending school. Students who do not make it into school due to dangerous conditions will have their absences excused.

Officials are asking all parents and guardians to ensure that their contact information is updated before winter weather arrives. That way the district or school can inform parents about closings or delays via text, call or email.
