Boone County firefighters battle trailer blaze

Boone County fire crews battled a large blaze that destroyed a trailer and spread to the woods near Harrisburg Saturday.

A family was home at the time of the fire, including one woman in a wheelchair. Fire officials said a passerby jumped off his bike to help pull her to safety.

That family was being helped by the Heart of Missouri chapter of the American Red Cross.

An ABC 17 News crew at the scene said the trailer was engulfed in flames that then spread to nearby woods. Smoke could be seen for miles – some viewers reported seeing the smoke from Columbia.

Firefighters responded around 3:30 p.m. to the home in the 10000 block of Route E. So many units were on the scene that Route E was closed for hours.

Crews had the fire under control by about 4:30 p.m.

The cause remained under investigation and no damage estimates were available Saturday night.
