Power restored in Fulton after citywide outage

Electricity has been restored to Fulton after the entire city lost power Tuesday evening.

Fulton City Administrator Bill Johnson confirmed to ABC 17 News that the entire town lost power before 5 p.m. Around 5:45 p.m., power was restored to all of the city’s residents.

During the outage, many city phone lines were inoperable. Power was out to the jail and delayed tip off of a Westminster College basketball game.

The outage was caused by equipment failure at one of the City’s electric substations.

Darin Wernig, with the city of Fulton told ABC 17 News that the substation was only a couple of years old. The average life span of substations is 30-50 years.

As of Wednesday afternoon Wernig said the city does not know when and exactly what they are going to do to fix the problem. In the mean time they have rerouted around the substation until repairs are made.

Callaway Electric Cooperative reported their customers were not affected by the outage.
