Jefferson City woman arrested for faking robbery report

Police in the capital city arrested a woman for faking a robbery, just months after she was charged for stealing money from her workplace.

Jefferson City police say around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sara Hlavacek, 31, of Jefferson City, called police, saying she had been robbed in the 200 block of East High Street.

Hlavacek told officers she had $100,000 in cash and was going to court for restitution purposes. She claimed a white man wearing a ski mask and dark clothing showed her a handgun and demanded the money.

Because of her report, several officers and Cole County Sheriff’s deputies responded and surrounded the area in downtown Jefferson City.

Hlavacek was taken to the police department for questioning. Following an investigation, officers determined she faked the police report and did not have $100,000 in cash.

According to an ABC 17 News report from April 2, Hlavacek was arrested and charged for allegedly stealing more than $100,000 from her job.

Police say she wrote checks in her name or a friend’s name to steal money from Cowley Distributing in Jefferson City.

Officers arrested her Tuesday for filing a false police report and she was taken to the Cole County Jail.
