Columbia police arrest shooting suspect

Police arrested a Columbia man wanted for a shooting in the capital city.

Police say they arrested 19-year-old Channing Tyler Williams on Thursday in the 1200 block of Player Place.

Williams was wanted in Cole County on a felony warrant for discharging a firearm. Police say the shooting happened Oct. 6 on Edmonds Street in Jefferson City. The incident occurred during Lincoln University’s homecoming weekend when police worked two shootings and a stabbing over a three-day period.

He was also arrested on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a defaced firearm, felony receiving stolen property, felony distribution of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Williams has a criminal history in Columbia. He pleaded guilty last year for a shooting in downtown Columbia near the old Boone Tavern. That incident was tied to a string of shootings, including one at the Chuck E. Cheese’s off Stadium Boulevard.

Williams is being held on a $150,000 bond.
