Grocery store renovations restart after asbestos found

Construction crews are restarting work on an Audrain County grocery store, days after officials found asbestos in the store.

County Market in Mexico, Mo. was inspected Saturday afternoon.

About three weeks ago, the Audrain County Health Department received calls from people concerned about dust in the store from renovations.

Further tests showed asbestos was in the floor tiles, but air samples came back negative.

Since then, most of the perishable or contaminated items have been destroyed.

Officials will clear the rest of the grocery items before the store reopens to customers.
