True/False Film Festival prepared for rain or shine

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The annual True/False Film Festival starts Wednesday at Stephens Lake Park this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with an outside location, the weather is a concern throughout the weekend.

Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau spokeswoman Megan McConachie, said there are plans in place in case the weather does not cooperate, including virtual screening options.

"The organizers have created virtual options if a screening has to be canceled due to weather, and just like any other large event they have plans for evacuations in case there is any severe weather and have walked through all of that with city officials," McConachie said.

Festival officials are encouraging those who have passes and tickets to create an account in the online platform in case the festival transfers over to the digital showings.

"That's what people who are attending the festival can do to prepare in case there is bad weather this weekend," McConachie said.

There will also be traffic alerts to consider when commuting home Wednesday through Sunday despite the weather. Carly Love, the operations director for Ragtag Film Society, said East Walnut will be closed to the public and Old 63 will be one-way going northbound from Jack Estes to Hinkson Ave.

The lot off Old 63 is the only lot available for the general public through the weekend and there are limited accessible spots available with an ADA hangtag. People are encouraged to park downtown and use one of the shuttle options to get to the festival.

"Have some patience as you wade through this event set up, we are really excited to be a part of this and we understand people haven't had to go through this kind of traffic in a little while so thanks for your patience," Love said.

Shuttle pick up and drop off points downtown include are at Rose Music Park, Walnut St Parking Garage, Cherry & 8th, and Ragtag Cinema. At the festival the shuttle pick up and drop off points at the park are the Old 63 Parking Lot and Riechmann Pavilion.

Shuttles will begin two hours before the first festival event and will end one hour after the last event each day.
