Students fear for safety after rape at Aspen Heights

A recent rape has student residents at Aspen Heights fearing for their safety.

The student housing complex has seen a rash of crime, from break-ins to a shooting, but police say this rape is the worst.

A 19-year-old female was chased near the clubhouse, pushed to the ground, and allegedly raped by a man in a mask.

This rape comes after Aspen Heights reportedly increased their safety measures.

But students who live at the complex tell ABC 17 News the gates don’t always work to keep people out.

“The gates stay open long enough for two or three cars to pass through,” Matthew Preuss, a resident, said. “You can easily get through if you just follow someone with a clicker.”

This easy access may be the key to allowing these frequent crimes to keep happening.

Another resident, Carey Nuese, said he and his roommates bought their own cameras and security system to protect themselves.

A spokesperson for Aspen Heights said they are looking into the incident.

The suspect remains on the loose. It is not clear if he is a resident of Aspen Heights.
