Police: Woman raped at Aspen Heights apartment complex

Police are investigating a forcible rape that happened at the troubled Aspen Heights apartment complex in Columbia.

Police were called to the University Hospital emergency room on Nov. 11 in reference to an assault that happened in the early morning hours of Nov. 1 or 2.

Investigators say the 19-year-old female victim was walking near the Aspen Heights clubhouse when the suspect chased her and pushed her onto the grass. Police say the suspect forcibly raped her then fled on foot.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 5’5″ to 5’8″ tall, medium build and was last seen wearing a mask, sweatshirt and shorts.

In October, the complex implemented several security changes after complaints about parties, including one involving a shooting on Oct. 6. Residents were restricted to four guests and access codes were disabled, requiring residents to use a remote device to enter the complex’s gate.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Columbia Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 573-875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
