Mauk, Tigers down No. 22 Florida at Faurot

Backed by 500 yards of total offense and a sound defensive game,No. 14 Missouri beat No. 22 Florida, 36-17 on Saturday.

Maty Mauk took over at the helm for injured starting quarterback James Franklin.

The first play of the game — a 41-yard pass to L’Damian Washington– helped the Tigers get into Florida territory early. Mauk then found Bud Sasser for a 20-yard TD toss, as the Tigers led 7-0 in just 22 seconds.

Mauk threw for 295 yards in his first career start with Andrew Baggett making five field goals to help the Tiger to trump the Gators.

Florida quarterback Tyler Murphy was sacked six times and flushed out of the pocket throughout the game.

Defensive lineman Michael Sam had another strong game sacking Murphy. Sam is two sacks away from leading the school record in sacks in a season.

With South Carolina and Georgia losing today , Missouri is ahead by two games in the SEC eastern division.

The win against Florida marks the second back-to-back win against a ranked opponent for the first time since 1972.
