Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival cost city more than $40,000

The annual Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival cost the City of Columbia more than $40,000 for police and fire personnel.

According to city documents, the Columbia Police Department reported the event cost the department approximately $39,546 while the city’s fire department reported about $4,030 in event costs.

In total, $43,576 was spent on officers and emergency responders at the festival.

Some of the money will be reimbursed to the city. Columbia will get back $31,958 for items including park rental fees, trash and recycling services and ticket sales.

The festival was held in Stephens Park for the first time in September.
