One person injured in shooting on the Business Loop in Columbia

Columbia police are searching for a gunman after a shooting in the central part of the city.

Around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, officers were called to the area near the Break Time at Business Loop 70 and Garth Avenue for a report of shots being fired.

Officers say three or four shots were fired from a small caliber weapon.

There is one victim, according to Sgt. Joe Bernhard. The 33-year-old male victim was taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers told an ABC 17 News crew at the scene that a man with a gun is on the loose. Authorities were asking residents in the area to stay inside Thursday evening.

No suspect description was immediately available.
