Capitol City Cinema hopes to open in Jefferson City soon

Residents in Jefferson City are in the process of turning a vacant High Street building into an independent theater showing newly released independent, foreign, and documentary films.

Board members tell ABC 17 News this nonprofit cinema will help attract tourists to Jefferson City, as well as keep locals in town for entertainment.

The cinema is now in the process of fundraising for projection equipment. The goal is $75,000, with $65,000 to go.

The Board of Directors said it hopes to raise the rest of the money from local businesses.

They said the cinema will have a positive impact on the Jefferson City economy because it will attract visitors to the city.

“This is just one more way in which Jefferson City will be able to entertain people coming in and as well as our own citizens,” said board member Rebecca Gordon.

Right now, the building is just an empty room, but board members say it will not be for long.

The board hopes to open the cinema as soon as it receives the funding. An opening date will depend on when that happens. For more information, click here.
