Crews rescue boaters on Missouri River

Boone County fire crews rescued four people Monday afternoon after they got stuck in the middle of the Missouri River.

The first calls came in around 3:10 p.m., but firefighters had to go about a mile upriver from Huntsdale to get around a sand bar and then back down to the stranded boaters.

Crew members say two separate boats ran aground in shallow water near the same spot. Each vessel had two passengers on it.

Crews said it is a difficult spot because there was no easy way to reach the boaters.
