Mid-Missouri investigator honored with prestigious law enforcement award
An investigator with the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department is this year’s recipient of a statewide honor.
Sgt. Shannon Jeffries received the 2013 Enoch B. Morelock Award, which recognizes individuals with outstanding moral character, service to law enforcement and to the community outside of law enforcement. The award is presented by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Sgt. Jeffries has been the coordinator of MUSTANG, the Mid-Missouri Unified Strike Team and Narcotics Group, for the past three years and has served as a MUSTANG narcotics officer for 12 years and an investigator with the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department for 17 years.
The MUSTANG Drug Task Force works to seize illicit drugs and drug money as well as arrest dealers. MUSTANG includes the sheriff’s departments in Callaway, Cole, and Boone counties, the police departments of Jefferson City, Columbia, Fulton and Boonville, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Jeffries participates in a youth mentor program for the Jefferson City School District outside of work. He also coaches youth sport programs, participates in a neighborhood watch program and gives drug and public safety presentations to area schools and law enforcement agencies.
The Enoch B. Morelock Award is a prestigious law enforcement award, named in honor of Sullivan County Sheriff Enoch B. Morelock. He was the first recorded line of duty death in the Western District of Missouri on Dec. 19, 1847.
