P&G recalls dry pet food due to possible salmonella contamination
Procter & Gamble is voluntarily recalling various types of dry pet food because they could be contaminated with salmonella.
The recall includes certain Iams dry dog and cat foods and Eukanuba dog foods.
The affected products were sent to retailers across the United States. All of them were made at a single P&G manufacturing site within a 10-day period.
No salmonella-related illnesses from the pet food have been reported so far.
Pets infected with salmonella may be lethargic and have diarrhea and vomiting. There is also the possibility that pets carrying the illness can pass it on to humans. People infected with salmonella may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever.
Consumers who purchased a recalled product should stop using it and contact P&G toll-free at 800-208-0172 (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET).
