School starts in Jefferson City

Jefferson City Public Schools starts of it’s 2013-14 school year Thursday.

Because of budget cuts, the police department will not be acting as crossing guards this year. Instead, school employees and chosen students will be making sure children cross the road safely.

The schools ask that all drivers be on extra guard now that schools have started back up.

David Luther of Jefferson City Public Schools says, “There’s going to be buses all over town. You need to make sure that you give them plenty of space. Be aware of walkers. Be aware of little kids in particular on their way to school.”

There will be three to five extra police officers on duty the first day of school to monitor the school zones.
