Council wants dedicated officer for alcohol checks

Nearly a fourth of Missouri’s minors have used alcohol in the last 30 days, according to a recent study.

That study also shows 70 percent of kids said it was easy to get alcohol.

One group in Missouri wants the police to do something about those statistics.

The Substance Abuse Advisory Commission proposed having a dedicated officer to maintain alcohol enforcement and protection.

Councilwoman Laura Nauser believes this is a good idea, if they have the budget for it.

But she says crime is the first priority.

A bartender at Tropical Liquors also agrees he would like a cop dedicated to alcohol compliance.

He said it’s hard to keep up with all of the new fake ID’s and the number of underage minors that come in.
